The open borders and the increased mobility in Europe created the need for information systems in many different languages. The proposed research is an important step towards a multi-lingual multi-functional information system. The project will give a good opportunity to transfer currently available up to date know how in German speech recognition to the Eastern European partners. At the same time all partners will work on the extension of the capabilities for the available system with respect to spontaneous speech. Again this extension can directly be transfered to the systems for the Eastern European languages. The proposed language identification module will allow the integration of the national subsystems into one system.
